Where do the clothing and other items go?
Small donation, big impact
By giving a second life to used items, Le Support is opting for protecting the environment while contributing to a worthy cause. The items collected are sold to different clients.
Contrary to what you might think, Le Support’s mission is not to collect used clothing that will then be used by people with intellectual disabilities. What these people need are services, equipment and living, recreation and creation spaces.
Le Support has helped thousands of people to live more inclusive, enjoyable and meaningful lives for 30 years. More than $30M has been given to:
- Support advocacy work to fight prejudice and build a more tolerant and inclusive society
- Support advocacy work before decision makers so that the needs of the families will be effectively recognized and supported
- Encourage connections between the families and research
- Train and inform the families about different types of interventions for people with intellectual disabilities
- Finance recreational, sports and cultural activities, as well as day camps
- Purchase specialized health equipment, playground equipment and adapted vehicles
We did all this by diverting more than 130,000 tons of used clothing and household items from landfill sites! All this without assistance or support from the different levels of government!
All of Le Support’s profits go to the Société québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle, which created us in 1988.
